PBSGL Facilitator Training 27 August 2020 - Edinburgh

Aims of PBSGL Facilitator Training

This one-day training programme is designed to support the development of facilitation skills for, and familiarity with the method of Practice-based Small Group Learning (PBSGL). PBSGL is a popular form of CPD for primary care professionals that is supported by NES and is based upon; topic-specific, evidence-based educational modules, peer-facilitated small group learning, and a cohort of peer-facilitators.

This well-received day-long training programme is designed for those that have an intention to take on a PBSGL group-facilitator role, and involves some pre-course preparation in the form of reading two PBSGL modules and immersion in small group learning and practice of facilitation skills throughout the day.

Objectives

To understand the place for peer-facilitated small group learning as part of a health professional’s continuing professional development

To help drive research-based findings into practice and thus narrow the gap between current practice and best practice

To understand the importance of small group facilitation skills and to provide the opportunity to learn and practice them

To be able to run a PBSGL group, including managing the process, helping to summarise learning and achieving commitment to change practice
